THE GAP BETWEEN IDEA AND PRODUCT IS WHERE MOST BUYERS GET STUCK
What you often don’t have is the design capability, the factory knowledge, and the technical expertise to turn that into a production-ready product at a price that works commercially.
That’s exactly what Living Ikon’s product development service provides.
We run continuous new product development for our partner network — tracking international furniture trends, trade show collections, and retail movements to keep our partners ahead of the market, not chasing it.
We start with your customer, your market positioning, and the commercial targets the product needs to hit. A good development brief is grounded in commercial reality — we help you build one if you don’t have it yet.
Our CAD team develops initial concepts, technical drawings, and material options for your review. We present alternatives and work through the design with you iteratively.
We specify the timber species, hardware, construction method, and finish to achieve the target aesthetic, durability, and price point. This is where development decisions are made that determine whether the product succeeds commercially.
Approved designs move to a physical prototype — manufactured in our factory network and inspected before it reaches you. We test for proportion, finish quality, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity.
We refine based on your feedback until the product is exactly right. Sign-off is documented and the production specification is locked.
The approved sample and specification are handed to production. Our team manages the transition from sample to production run, ensuring the product that ships is the product that was approved.
We support product development across all indoor furniture categories:
- Living room (sofas, coffee tables, entertainment units, display and shelving)
- Dining (tables, chairs, benches, sideboards and buffets)
- Bedroom (beds, bedheads, bedside tables, dressers and wardrobes)
- Occasional and accent furniture
In solid timber, mixed media, and upholstered constructions — and in any combination of these.
Product development doesn’t only mean starting from zero. Many of our clients use our development service to extend existing ranges — adding complementary pieces, adapting products for new markets, or updating an established line for a new season.
We support:
- Category adaptation (scaling a dining success into a complementary bedroom range)
- Market-specific design modifications (proportions, pack flat requirements, compliance adjustments)
- Seasonal refreshes with new finishes or detail updates on proven constructions
- Have a market opportunity but don’t have in-house design resources to act on it
- Want to own their product intellectually — not just resell catalogue
- Are building a range that needs to be exclusive to their brand
- Need a partner who can move from brief to physical sample quickly and reliably
