Oak Timber

OAK: THE INDUSTRY BENCHMARK

Oak is the world’s most recognised and commercially proven furniture timber. Its combination of visual authority, structural strength, and consumer trust makes it the single most requested species across the markets Living Ikon serves — Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and North America among them.

For wholesale buyers, Oak is not a risk — it’s a foundation. The right Oak range, well-designed and well-finished, sells.

CHARACTERISTICS
Colour
Warm golden to medium brown, often with subtle honey and amber tones. European and American Oak present slightly differently — European tends cooler and more neutral; American warmer with more pronounced ray fleck. We can advise on which suits your market and aesthetic.
Grain
Open, pronounced, and characteristic — the defining visual signature of Oak. The medullary ray fleck, most visible in quarter-sawn cuts, adds decorative interest and depth. Straight grain is standard; figured cuts are available for premium applications.
Hardness & Durability
Oak is a hard, dense, and highly durable timber. It resists denting, handles everyday furniture use well, and builds heirloom-grade longevity into your product. Consumer trust in Oak durability is exceptionally high — a commercial advantage at point of sale.
Workability
Oak machines cleanly, takes fasteners well, and accepts a wide range of finishes and stains consistently. It is well-suited to both traditional joinery techniques and contemporary CNC production methods.
Weight
Heavy and substantial. Oak furniture has the weight that communicates quality — important for retail environments where consumers are comparing products in person.
FINISH OPTIONS

Oak’s open grain and warm base tone make it highly responsive to finishing:

  • Natural and clear lacquer (lets the grain breathe; contemporary appeal)
  • Whitened, limed, and bleached finishes (on-trend; reduces warmth for cooler interiors)
  • Light, medium, and dark stains (broadens commercial range; adapts the look for different price points)
  • Smoked and wire-brushed finishes (premium positioning; high design appeal)
  • Oil finishes (natural, maintenance-forward positioning for sustainability-conscious markets)

We develop custom finish samples for private label and ODM programs to ensure your range is distinctive.

APPLICATIONS

Oak is used across our collections in:

  • Dining tables, extensions, and refectory designs
  • Dining chairs, benches, and bar stools
  • Bed frames, bedheads, and bedroom storage
  • Sideboards, buffets, and entertainment units
  • Coffee tables, side tables, and occasional pieces
  • Shelving, display, and bookcase units
MARKET POSITIONING
Oak commands premium to super-premium retail positioning. Consumers recognise it, trust it, and are willing to pay for it — making it the right choice for buyers targeting quality-conscious mid-to-upper market segments.

Oak’s durability and finish versatility also make it a practical choice for contract and hospitality applications, where longevity and cleanability matter alongside aesthetics.

VENEER & ENGINEERED OPTIONS
Alongside solid Oak, we produce Oak-veneered products on engineered substrate — appropriate for case goods, panels, and larger surfaces where material cost and weight management are commercial priorities. We advise on the right application for each product in your range.
SUSTAINABILITY
Living Ikon sources Oak through responsible, traceable supply chains. We work with suppliers operating under credentialed forestry management programs and can provide origin documentation on request. FSC-certified Oak is available for buyers with specific sustainability requirements.
